Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Scranton, Pa. – Americhem, a US-based maker of custom polymer solutions, has acquired Noble Biomaterials, the Scranton-headquartered advanced materials company behind the X-STATIC®, IONIC+® and CIRCUITEX® technology platforms. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Noble Biomaterials specializes in antimicrobial, odor-control and conductive technologies for soft surfaces such as fabrics. Its markets include apparel and textiles, healthcare, and aerospace and defense. Applications include odor elimination, infection prevention, EMI shielding, multispectral signature management and smart-fabric enablement. The company manufactures in the US and holds an IP portfolio built over about two decades.
For Americhem, the deal strengthens its fiber and polymer offering and supports its push into healthcare and aerospace and defense. The company operates nine manufacturing plants and sales offices worldwide.
“Noble Biomaterials brings exceptional capabilities in antimicrobial solutions, strong commercial relationships and a reputation for quality,” said Americhem CEO John Richard. Noble founder and Chief Commercial Officer Joel Furey said the brands would benefit from Americhem’s global scale and deep knowledge of polymer and fiber applications.
PPC, the family-oriented investment firm that backs Americhem, supported the transaction. Principal Kaitlyn Desai said Noble’s technology and market focus fit Americhem’s strategy of becoming a global leader in specialized polymer and advanced materials.
Why it matters for textiles: The deal brings functional-yarn and fabric technologies, including silver-based antimicrobial and conductive treatments, under a larger compounding and masterbatch supplier. That could give mills and brands a more integrated route from development to commercial-scale production of performance and smart textiles.
