TCF POST Report

Portland, Oct. 28, 2026 -Columbia Sportswear has launched the “Don’t Panic Room,” a social campaign and contest with one very large prize: a stocked, off-grid bunker delivered to the winner’s door.

The prize

The winner gets a 40-foot by 8-foot modified shipping container, plus $35,000. Inside: a bunk bed, small kitchen and dining area, bathroom, and a robotic dog named Rocky for company. Shelves are packed with Columbia gear, footwear, tools and supplies.

The fashion angle

The standout detail is the wardrobe. The bunker holds rows of canned jackets, sealed to last and meant to be popped open in an emergency. Among them is the Terwilliger Trail Heat Seal Hooded Jacket, which uses Omni-Heat Infinity, Columbia’s reflective thermal tech inspired by emergency blankets. Footwear includes the Tellurix Titanium OutDry Mid, a technical waterproof shoe built for unpredictable conditions.

The pitch

The campaign kicks off with a film at columbia.com/bunker starring CEO Tim Boyle, who challenges viewers to prove they have the skills to win. The brand is taking a clear swipe at the tech elite’s bunker-building trend. “As we all watch tech people building bunkers to hide from their own tech, we want to reward the real survivalists and outdoors people,” said Matt Sutton, Columbia’s head of marketing.

Boyle added that the company has been making gear for bad weather for almost 90 years: “We’ve seen it all.”

The campaign is the next chapter in Columbia’s “Engineered for Whatever” platform.

How to enter

Entrants submit videos showing off their survival skills via Instagram or columbia.com/bunker through Nov. 24, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET).

The fine print

  • Open to legal residents of the 48 contiguous US states and DC, aged 18+ (19+ in Alabama and Nebraska)
  • Void in Alaska and Hawaii
  • No purchase necessary
  • The winner must receive and maintain the container
  • Full rules: DontPanicRoom.com/rules

Why it matters: It’s a playful, meme-ready stunt that turns Columbia’s thermal and waterproof tech into a story, and a pointed one at that.
