On 29 October 2026, ASICS announced the 29th generation of its GEL-NIMBUS™ running shoe from Kobe, Japan. The brand positions the update as a step up in softness and comfort, built to help runners go further while supporting both body and mind. The headline change is a new foam, paired with a reshaped sole and a refreshed upper.

What’s New

  • FF LUXE™ PLUS foam: a lightweight, plush midsole designed for softness that holds up as the miles accumulate.
  • Wave-patterned sole: the redesigned bottom allows extra compression for a softer ride.
  • PureGEL™ under the heel: placed to absorb shock and cushion landings.
  • Engineered mesh upper: balances softness, breathability and structure, with a knitted tongue, ribbed collar and a pull tab for easy entry.
  • HYBRID ASICSGRIP™ outsole: more rubber coverage than the previous model for grip and durability on varied surfaces.
  • Light for its class: roughly 279g (men’s) and 238g (women’s).
  • Lower footprint figure: 11.4kg CO₂e per pair.

Design and Intent

The “Soaring Cloud” concept draws on the feeling of floating on an updraft. The sculpted midsole echoes flowing clouds and the lines of classical Japanese painting, while subtle color shifts and bright accents suggest sunlight catching a cloud’s edges.

Laura Bolgen, Director of Global Product for Performance Running Footwear, framed the update as an effort to make the series’ trademark comfort even more plush and uplifting. She credited the combination of the new foam, outsole shape, PureGEL™ technology and premium upper for lasting support over long distances.
